True Christian Stories
by Deb Matthews
Welcome! Here's another true Christian story from my collection of things that have really happened to me (including stories about miracles, angels, Civil Air Patrol and God's love and blessings). This one is from the eighties and is about God protecting me when my little delivery truck spun into oncoming traffic on a busy freeway bridge.

Do you know what happens to roads after a few weeks of beautiful sunshine, and then a sudden rain? I discovered real quick on one wet summer day that the mix of rain on a buildup of road oil can be very dangerous.
I was driving a little Toyota pickup, running parts between nine Midas shops in the Puget Sound area. I realized early in the run that the roads were slick, so I was being especially cautious, leaving plenty of room between myself and other cars, and avoiding situations where I'd have to stop fast.
Now on the 520 bridge across Lake Washington, I was careful to maintain a steady speed and not do anything stupid as I approached the slippery grating -- metal plates that formed a sort of 'expansion' at different points on the bridge. I knew from experience on the Tacoma Narrows bridge how tricky the metal plates could be and that you're not supposed to change lanes, or move the wheel when you're on them -- even in the best conditions.
I was in the left-hand lane, and the split second the wheels hit the grating, the truck suddenly went swerving into the oncoming traffic, right through an empty space where there were no concrete dividers. For some reason, even though it was close to lunch time and there was a lot of traffic, there was this empty pocket of no cars right where I came shooting through. As the truck veered into their lane, I quickly steered and forced it back into the westbound lane where I belonged, just as the oncoming cars made it to the point where I had been.
I had plenty of adrenalin pumping the rest of the trip, but was thankful the Lord had protected me from what could have been a major head-on collision!
